The instructor said, Go home and write a page tonight. And let that page come out of you-- Then, it will be true. I wondered if it was that hard, To write a poem, That expresses the emotions of a boy, Who is 14 and one of the teens, from Turkey, With better future dreams. But only found loneliness and blues. I foundered in the swamp of feelings, These thoughts dropping on my mind, Just like raindrops during rainfall, While I am biking home at lightspeed. But why do I feel like I am drowning in these drops Instead of feeling like freshly wet soil? Then I stop, sit down and start To write my emotions in this white piece Desperate to carry the weight of feelings. It is not easy to be a newcomer, At fourteen, but I guess I am what I am, I can not change it and the things I like. I like the lake near the school Even though I know it cannot see, It is a friend and a guardian to me, I like to study, read and be happy. I like to ride a bike, play soccer and be free. I like watching trees, knights in green. So I guess being a newcomer does not make me worse, Than the other folk that was here, and that Drops a question heavy as lead to my mind: Will this page I write be a newcomer and get lost among the others? Being me, it will never be American. But it will always be A part of the society That you are a part of. We are just like the two sides of a coin, Which will never be the same. But we belong to each other. That’s humanity. Sometimes you want to get rid of me, Nor do I often want to be a part of you. But since we are negatively charged particles, We can’t do anything but to come closer. This is my theme for English CP.
